Descriptions of projects that I have done outside of school.
Raspberry Pi Projects
Retro Pi – The first project that I attempted was to turn one into a retro-gaming station. This project took some time due to it being my first Raspberry Pi project. After getting used to the interface, I installed the “Retro Pi” OS onto the Raspberry Pi and uploaded a variety of retro games for a variety of old gaming systems.
Raspbian – My next project with a Raspberry Pi was with the installation of Raspbian. This was significantly easier to do after my previous project and took a fraction of the time. Once Raspbian was up and running, I mainly used the different programming software’s that come pre-loaded with Raspbian to experiment and learn how to code.
Kali Linux – My next project was to install Kali Linux onto the Raspberry Pi and use it for network probing, monitoring, and password cracking. This project was by far the most difficult and required a lot of trial and error because many of the update links for Kali Linux had been changed or removed over time. After getting it working, I installed Aircrack-ng, WireShark, and Reaver, which are different types of software that can be used for penetration testing.
PC Building
My personal PC – In the summer of 2018 I began reading up on how to build a PC, I received some guidance from the IT department at the place where I worked about where I should start the process. After doing more research, I felt that I was ready to begin, I started by asking the IT department if they had any old parts from previous PC’s, while they took a week or so to look, they gave me a project to do in the meantime. My project was to take one of the company’s spare computers apart completely, then to clean it, reassemble it, put windows ten on it, and then bring it back. Once done, I brought it back, and they gave me a variety of different computer parts for me to use in my personal computer. The next step was extremely difficult because of all of the various different parts having different software/hardware requirements. This set of constraints made filling in the rest of the missing parts very difficult and I spent hours researching parts to find out if they would all work properly together. Once I was certain I had all the parts that I required, I built the PC. All things considered, the computer turned out much better than expected and is quite a powerhouse for the variety of parts that were cobbled together to make it work. It is still my current PC and is still fast and powerful.
My Mom’s PC – The second computer I built was extremely easy compared to my personal one. Mostly because I had a much bigger budget, meaning I could start from scratch and build it without having to worry about constraints from parts that I already had. This made the process of picking parts for it significantly easier, it also meant that I didn’t have to do nearly as much research before constructing it.
